- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 pound ground beef (80/20)
- 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 4 slices American cheese
- 4 burger buns
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Slice onions paper-thin and toss with a pinch of salt. Let them sit for 10 minutes.
- Form the ground beef into four loose 4 oz balls without packing tightly.
- Heat a cast iron skillet over medium-high and add butter.
- Place a beef ball on the skillet, top with a mound of onions, and smash flat with a spatula.
- Season with salt and pepper. Let cook for 2-3 minutes until the onions are golden.
- Flip carefully, top with cheese, and cook another minute.
- Toast burger buns in the same skillet or with extra butter.
- Assemble burgers and serve hot.

- For a better flavor, use fresh ground beef and high-quality cheese.
