Description

Delicious potato farls, perfect for breakfast or as a side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500g potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 50g unsalted butter, plus extra for serving
  • 100g all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • Vegetable oil or butter for frying

Instructions

  1. Boil the potatoes in a large pot of lightly salted water until fork-tender, about 15 minutes. Drain well.
  2. Mash the hot potatoes with 50g butter until smooth. Season with salt and black pepper, then allow to cool slightly.
  3. Add the flour and milk to the mashed potatoes and mix until a soft dough forms. If dough is sticky, add a little more flour.
  4. Turn the dough onto a floured surface. Roll into a circle about 1cm thick and cut into quarters (farls).
  5. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat and add a little oil or butter. Cook the farls for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden and cooked through.
  6. Serve warm with extra butter, if desired.

Notes

  • These potato farls can be served with various toppings such as cheese or herbs for added flavor.
  • Store leftover farls in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
