- 8 slices thick bread (Texas toast or challah)
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup whole milk (or almond milk)
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter (for frying)
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- Optional fillings: Nutella, cream cheese, or fruit preserves
Instructions
- Trim the crusts from the bread slices and flatten them with a rolling pin.
- Spread your chosen filling evenly across each slice.
- Roll each slice tightly around the filling and secure with a toothpick if needed.
- In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla until smooth.
- Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat.
- Dip each roll-up into the egg mixture and place seam-side down in the pan.
- Fry until golden brown on all sides, remove from heat and sprinkle with powdered sugar or drizzle with maple syrup before serving.
Notes
- For a crispier texture, make sure the skillet is properly heated before adding the roll-ups.
